Anthropic has launched Claude Tag (@Claude) in research preview for Slack, which the company states may supersede traditional Slackbot functionalities. This new feature is designed as an always-on AI assistant that maintains a single, accessible identity for all members of a Slack channel.
Users can summon @Claude by typing “@Claude” within a channel. The bot allows members to view its ongoing tasks and continue discussions from previous interactions. Over time, @Claude is programmed to learn about the members’ work styles, which reduces the necessity for repeated explanations.
In designated channels, @Claude can gather information from the broader organization if it has the appropriate permissions granted by admins. If enabled, it can use “ambient” behavior to provide proactive updates about relevant information from other parts of the organization. The bot is also capable of following up on tasks that have not been updated for an extended period.
To ensure data security, Anthropic assures that @Claude’s access to sensitive information can be thoroughly managed. Systems administrators are required to define which tools and data @Claude can access in each channel to mitigate potential risks.
Initially, Claude Tag will be available in research preview for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers, with plans for broader rollout in the future.
