Meta is developing new AI agents for users and businesses, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced during the company’s earnings report. According to a report from The Information, the company is working on an “OpenClaw-inspired” AI agent called “Hatch.” This agent is designed to function within Meta’s apps, including agentic shopping on Instagram, as well as integrating with third-party services.
Meta has tested Hatch on simulated versions of platforms like DoorDash, Reddit, and Outlook. The agent aims to help Meta compete with TikTok Shop, allowing Instagram users to purchase items seen in Reels more easily. The company has recently enabled creators to tag up to 30 products in videos, a move that may lay the groundwork for Hatch’s functionalities.
In his remarks, Zuckerberg highlighted the need for AI agents to be more accessible, stating, “We want to deliver agents that can understand your goals and then work day and night to help you achieve them.” Meta attempted to recruit the creator of OpenClaw but he chose to join OpenAI instead. However, Meta successfully hired the founders of Moltbook, another AI agent platform.
The launch of Meta’s AI agent capabilities is expected closer to the end of the year. The company is currently testing these agents using Anthropic models, with plans to transition to its Muse Spark model in the future. There are also indications that Meta’s ambitions may include its smart glasses lineup, with CFO Susan Li mentioning their potential for agentic interactions, though she remarked it is still early for such features.
