Uber announced the launch of hotel booking via its app in the U.S., effective immediately. This new feature allows users to access over 700,000 hotels globally through a partnership with Expedia, starting with a “Hotels” button on the main app screen.
The integration aims to enhance user experience by providing several search filters to customize hotel selections. Uber One members will receive discounts along with 10% of their booking payment credited back, which could offset subsequent Uber rides to and from hotels.
In addition to hotel bookings, Uber plans to enter the vacation rental market with VRBO listings set to launch later this year. Furthermore, from June 1, Uber One members can utilize Uber credits across all eligible countries, rather than being restricted to their home country.
Uber is also rolling out a new feature called Travel Mode. This mode will activate when users are outside their home city, offering information about local pricing and operations, as well as a curated list of suggested venues.
In a bid to enhance its food delivery options, Uber Eats will soon feature dining recommendations and the ability to make reservations via OpenTable. Additionally, specific Uber Black service cities will allow users to order snacks and beverages during rides through an “add Uber Eats” option.
A new functionality, Shop for Me, will allow users to request items from any store. Users must confirm purchases, and a shopper will retrieve the requested items at the in-store price. Uber also disclosed plans for an AI-driven voice booking feature, enabling users to verbally state their requests.
The app is being updated to provide a unified search bar that includes rides, food, groceries, and other services. Speculation mounts that Uber could expand into a multifunctional platform similar to WeChat, mirroring Elon Musk’s aspirations for X to evolve into an “everything app.”
