Meta is increasing the prices of its virtual reality headsets due to rising memory chip costs, the company announced. Starting April 19, the price of the Meta Quest 3S (128GB) will rise by $50 to $349.99, and the Meta Quest 3S (256GB) will also increase by $50 to $449.99. The price of the Meta Quest 3 will increase by $100 to $599.99.
The price adjustments reflect a broader market trend as the company aims to maintain product quality amid significantly increased hardware production costs. Meta noted that a global surge in the price of critical components, particularly memory chips, is affecting various consumer electronics, including virtual reality devices.
Meta stated, “We’re making this change because the cost of building high-performance VR hardware has risen significantly.” The company seeks to ensure the quality of hardware, software, and support for the Quest platform remains high despite rising costs.
Updated pricing will apply to refurbished Meta Quest units as well. However, all Meta Quest accessories will remain at their current prices. Meta’s decision to raise prices aligns it with other technology companies, including Samsung, Microsoft, and Sony, which have also adjusted prices due to the ongoing RAM shortage.
