YouTube is raising the price of its Premium subscription offerings, effective in the June billing period, 9to5Google reports. Individual accounts will see a $2 increase to $15.99 monthly, while family plans will rise by $4 to $26.99 per month.
YouTube informed Premium subscribers of the changes, citing the need to support improved services and features. In a note, the company stated, “To continue delivering great service and features, we’re increasing your price to $15.99/month. We don’t make these decisions lightly, but this update will allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.”
Other updates include the Lite plan, now priced at $8.99 monthly, an increase of $1, and the Music Premium plan, which will cost $11.99 per month, also reflecting a $1 increase. This marks the first price change for YouTube Premium since 2022.
The benefits of YouTube Premium include an ad-free experience, offline downloads, and background play. The latter feature is gaining attention as more users consume podcasts through the YouTube app, potentially increasing the attractiveness of Premium subscriptions.
The price adjustments will apply universally to all U.S. Premium users starting in June. This move aims to boost revenue and enhance subscriber offerings amidst changing consumption habits.
