Jay Blahnik, Apple’s Fitness chief, is retiring in July after nearly 13 years with the company. Blahnik announced his retirement via email to employees, stating he is leaving to spend time with family and relocate to New York City.

His departure follows allegations reported by The New York Times that he was “verbally abusive, manipulative and inappropriate” towards employees, contributing to a toxic work environment. Approximately 10 of the 100 employees under Blahnik’s leadership sought extended leaves of absence for mental health concerns since 2022.

One employee has filed a lawsuit against Blahnik and Apple for bullying, with the trial scheduled for 2027. Additionally, Apple allegedly settled a complaint from another employee accusing Blahnik of sexual harassment. Despite these allegations, an internal investigation by Apple reportedly found no evidence of wrongdoing by Blahnik.

Employees voiced that they felt Apple prioritized protecting Blahnik’s image over addressing their concerns. During his tenure, Blahnik oversaw the Fitness+ subscription service and contributed to the development of the fitness features of the Apple Watch, as well as the creation of the activity rings.
