Direct messages on TikTok remain protected with standard encryption, similar to services such as Gmail.
The company indicated that only authorized employees can access direct messages under specific circumstances, including valid law enforcement requests or user reports of harmful conduct.
Popular applications like Signal, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger for 1:1 chats, Apple’s Messages, and Google Messages utilize end-to-end encryption by default.
