Engineers at OpenAI prompted the decision after experiencing a rise in service disruptions that rendered GitHub unavailable in recent months, The Information reported. The project is in its early stages and likely will not be completed for months.
Employees have considered making the code repository available for purchase to OpenAI’s customer base. Reuters could not independently verify the report. OpenAI, GitHub, and Microsoft did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
OpenAI’s latest funding round valued the company at $840 billion. The $110 billion raise involved Big Tech and SoftBank.
