The Jerusalem Post reported that xAI’s Grok chatbot correctly predicted the date of coordinated US-Israel military strikes on Iran. The prediction emerged from a February 25 article testing four AI models on when strikes would occur.
Grok was the only system to identify February 28 as the date of the attack. The model specified “a limited US strike on February 28, 2026, tied to the outcome of the Geneva talks.” The other models tested predicted dates in early March. Anthropic’s Claude suggested March 7 or 8, Google’s Gemini offered March 4-6, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT predicted March 3.
The strikes began on February 28 at approximately 9:45 a.m. Iran time. Israel initiated the operation, codenamed “Roaring Lion,” followed by US forces under “Operation Epic Fury.” President Donald Trump announced the strikes in a video address, vowing to dismantle Iran’s missile industry. Explosions were reported in Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the strikes, according to the Associated Press and Reuters. Iran launched retaliatory strikes against Israel and US military facilities in Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.

The Jerusalem Post framed the test as a stress check of AI capabilities rather than a forecasting service. The article noted that “the harder the AI models were pushed, the more specific the answers got.” Grok’s prediction utilized publicly available signals, including Geneva diplomatic talks and a 10-to-15-day deadline stated by Trump on February 19.
