Qualcomm announced it will not announce updates to its Snapdragon G Series gaming chips or the Snapdragon X line at the 2026 Game Developers Conference. The company reversed a January suggestion to The Verge that it might announce Windows gaming handhelds at the event.
The reversal indicates that supply constraints are impacting product roadmaps for major chip designers. It delays potential competition for Nvidia’s Arm gaming CPU and Intel’s dedicated handheld gaming chips.
Qualcomm spokesperson Cassandra Garcia-Bacha stated the company remains committed to the Snapdragon X Series and G Series processors. The statement said these processors are pushing the PC, desktop, and handheld gaming device industries forward.
Qualcomm did not state the reason for the schedule change. The announcement follows a February earnings call where CEO Cristiano Amon attributed a significant dip in the chip business to the memory shortage.
Amon told investors that the AI industry’s demand for components would define the scale of the phone industry for the year. He stated the memory shortage was responsible for the dip “100 percent.”
CFO Akash Palkhiwala testified that device manufacturers have already reduced production. Amon said the company wishes there was more memory available. Nvidia’s Arm gaming CPU and Intel’s first dedicated handheld gaming chips are currently in the market. Qualcomm’s cancellation suggests supply issues are affecting product launches across the sector.
The Verge reported the initial January hint about potential Windows gaming handhelds. The publication also reported the subsequent announcement regarding GDC.
