Microsoft announced that Xbox consoles now support streaming games at 1440p. The update applies to Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One X, and Xbox One, provided the game and display support the resolution. Game streaming is a key benefit of Game Pass and, as of 2025, includes games players own outside the Game Pass library. This higher bitrate streaming option is currently restricted to Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Previously, 1440p streaming was limited to select Fire TVs, LG TVs, Samsung TVs, web browsers, and the Xbox PC app.
The company is also updating the Xbox PC app and the experience on ASUS ROG Xbox Ally handhelds. The Xbox PC app now features “navigation sounds” that play when users navigate the interface with a controller. These sounds are designed to make controller input feel more responsive and intuitive. For the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X, Microsoft is simplifying the process of formatting removable storage, such as microSD cards. Driver updates are being rolled out to improve game compatibility on these handheld devices.
Leadership changes have occurred within Microsoft’s gaming division. Former Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer announced his retirement on Friday. Asha Sharma, President of Microsoft’s CoreAI division, was appointed as Spencer’s replacement. Opinions are divided on whether Sharma’s appointment will benefit Xbox. More changes are expected following this executive transition.
