Google has introduced Me Meme, a new feature in the Google Photos app that enables users to create personalized memes featuring synthetic versions of themselves. The tool supports selection from various templates or uploading a custom funny picture as the base. It rolls out to Android and iOS users over the coming weeks.
Google describes Me Meme as “a simple way to explore with your photos and create content that’s ready to share with friends and family.” The feature generates memes by combining user-provided reference photos with selected templates, producing shareable content directly within the app.
Access to Me Meme occurs through the Google Photos interface. Users tap the Create button located at the bottom of the screen, then select Me Meme from the options. The app prompts selection of a template followed by addition of a reference photo to generate the meme. An option to regenerate the output exists if the initial result does not meet user preferences.
A Google representative informed TechCrunch that the feature remains unavailable to all users at present, with rollout scheduled progressively across Android and iOS platforms in the coming weeks. This phased deployment ensures gradual availability to the user base.
Google specifies that Me Meme performs optimally with well-lit, focused, and front-facing portrait photos as reference images. The company states, “This feature is still experimental, so generated images may not perfectly match the original photo.” Users receive this guidance to manage expectations regarding output accuracy.
