Lenovo unveiled its XD Rollable Concept laptop at CES 2026 in Las Vegas from January 4 to 9, featuring a rollable display that expands from 13.3 inches to 16 inches with a button press to provide 50 percent more screen area.

Lenovo has conducted more experiments with laptops incorporating rollable displays than any other PC maker. The company continues this approach at CES 2026 with the XD Rollable Concept. This device includes a 180-degree Gorilla Glass Victus 2 cover glass. The cover contributes to the concept’s futuristic design aesthetic.

The XD Rollable Concept employs the same basic engineering found in Lenovo’s ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 from the previous year. A 13.3-inch flexible OLED display serves as the primary screen. Users activate expansion by pressing a button. The display then extends to 16 inches within a few seconds. This process adds approximately 50 percent extra screen space compared to the compact state.

The XD Rollable Concept differs from prior models in the handling of the rollable panel. Previous designs, such as the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, conceal the unused portion of the display underneath the keyboard. In contrast, the XD Rollable panel wraps up and over the lid. This configuration creates a world-facing display on the back of the laptop.

The world-facing display enables visibility for individuals seated opposite the user. The laptop supports mirroring of elements from the main display onto this rear area. Alternatively, the space functions as a small secondary monitor.

During normal operation, the back display remains on the opposite side of the lid, making it invisible to the primary user. Expansion fully utilizes the 13.3-inch screen to reach 16 inches. The design exposes the unused panel even when not extended. This approach provides additional utility compared to hiding the panel under the keyboard, where it remains unseen. The display features no bezel along the top edge.

Touch controls appear on the edge of the display. These controls manage widgets or initiate screen expansion. The remainder of the XD Rollable Concept maintains conventional laptop features. It includes a comfortable keyboard. The touchpad measures at a decent size, suitable for standard interactions. The glass lid increases the overall weight beyond that of a typical 13-inch notebook.

Connectivity limits to two USB-C ports. Lenovo confirms no plans to produce the XD Rollable Concept commercially. Such decisions explain the absence of detailed specifications and expanded port options.
