Microsoft announced a new 5G Surface Laptop model, with shipments beginning August 26, priced from $1,799.99 and targeting business users.

This laptop integrates Intel’s Core Ultra Series 2 processors, including an NPU for Copilot Plus AI features. The Surface Laptop 5G shares design similarities with the existing 13.8-inch Surface Laptop 7 but incorporates internal modifications for a 5G modem, supporting both physical nano SIMs and eSIMs.

The base model features an Intel Core Ultra 5 processor, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage for $1,799. The top-tier configuration costs $2,699, equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. All versions will be available in the Surface platinum silver color.

Microsoft developed a specialized antenna system for the Surface Laptop 5G. Nancie Gaskill, general manager of the Surface business, stated, “At the heart of Surface Laptop 5G is a dynamic antenna system that continuously adapts to its environment.” This system utilizes six antennas that adjust based on the device’s position or use. The nano SIM slot is located next to the Surface Connect charging port.

Gaskill also noted, “This design required a new material, one that allows radio signals to pass through without impacting performance, while still delivering the durability, premium feel and lightness our customers are looking for.” Microsoft engineered a custom multi-layered laminate to accommodate 5G connectivity without compromising portability or design. Extensive testing of the 5G hardware covered over 100 mobile operators in more than 50 countries. This 5G capability enables constant connectivity and mobile hotspot functionality.

The Surface Laptop 5G is primarily intended for business applications. Businesses also gained access to the latest Surface Laptop 13-inch and Surface Pro 12-inch models as of the announcement date.
