IBM’s AI elevates your Masters Tournament experience

IBM Consulting fine-tuned Granite and other LLMs using historical shot locations, expert insights from past Masters caddies, and nine years of Tournament data to improve insight quality.

IBM and the Masters Tournament are teeing off new digital fan features powered by watsonx AI for the 2025 Tournament. Golf enthusiasts can expect a more personalized experience via the Masters app and Masters.com, thanks to the 30-year collaboration between IBM and the Masters.

Hole Insights 2.0, enhanced with watsonx technologies like the Granite LLM, provides data-driven insights for every shot on each hole at Augusta National. Expect details such as:

  • Data-driven recaps: Daily updates on how each hole performed during the 2025 Tournament.
  • Hole projections: Predictions of how each hole might perform based on current data.
  • Historical insights: Analysis based on nine years of Tournament data, including over 180,000 shots.

The updated Masters app on Apple Vision Pro offers clearer 3D visuals of Augusta National and new features like Video on Demand, alongside returning features like Hole Insights 2.0 and AI Narration.

With the app, fans can view 3D layouts of each hole, explore elevation changes, and simultaneously watch multiple live streams.

Jonathan Adashek, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications at IBM, stated the collaboration between IBM and Augusta National transforms Masters data into digital experiences for golf fans.

IBM’s partnerships extend to organizations like Scuderia Ferrari HP, Wimbledon, the US Open, ESPN Fantasy Football, and UFC, utilizing AI and hybrid cloud solutions.

The 89th Masters Tournament is scheduled for April 10-13 at Augusta National Golf Club.
