Samsung is set to unveil its highly-anticipated Project Moohan XR headset at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, scheduled for March 3-6. This marks Samsung’s first Android XR headset developed in collaboration with Google.

Samsung to reveal Project Moohan XR headset at MWC 2025

Project Moohan runs on the new Android XR platform and integrates multimodal AI, aiming to deliver advanced extended reality capabilities. The headset showcases a design similar to Apple’s Vision Pro but retains elements from Google’s older Daydream View VR accessory. Unlike the Vision Pro, Project Moohan does not feature an exterior EyeSight display.

A key hardware component of the headset is the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 processor, which is Qualcomm’s most powerful VR chip. This chipset offers ultra-low latency, reaching down to 12ms, enhancing the naturalness of user interactions.

While it remains unclear if Samsung will disclose pricing and availability for Project Moohan during MWC 2025, attendees will have the opportunity to experience the headset firsthand on the show floor, likely resulting in further details emerging in the coming days.

Would you really buy a tri-folding Samsung Galaxy phone?

Samsung introduced Project Moohan alongside Android XR in December and provided additional insights during the Galaxy S25 launch in January. This unveiling at MWC 2025 is anticipated to reflect the future of AI-powered extended reality, characterized by increased context-awareness and personalized user experiences.

The Project Moohan developer kit, announced in mid-December, indicates that the headset design was near its final hardware setup that will be made available to consumers in 2025. It is powered by the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor and features an external battery with the possibility to connect larger power packs via USB-C. Some developers received early units to prepare applications following the initial announcements.

Analysts hope MWC 2025 will provide conclusive information regarding the final name, price, and shipping date, as well as detailed specifications of the headset. Reports from hands-on experiences indicate that the headset is lightweight with polished hardware.

Additional announcements from Samsung at MWC 2025 include the Galaxy A56 5G, A36 5G, and A26 5G, along with an exclusive preview of the Galaxy S25 Edge.

Project Moohan rumors

Speculative pricing for Project Moohan is suggested to range between $1,500 and $3,000, positioning it as a potential competitor to Apple’s Vision Pro, which retails for $3,500. One source indicated it could cost between $2,000 and $3,000, while another suggested it might be priced at least half of the Vision Pro’s cost, hinting at a range around $1,750 or lower.

Regarding release timelines, there are indications the headset may first launch for developers in 2025, with broader consumer availability following later in the year. Although MWC 2025 is the designated unveiling event, it remains uncertain whether this signifies a complete launch or solely a showcase.

In terms of branding, there are rumors that Project Moohan may be officially named “Galaxy Beyond,” based on trademark filings in New Zealand and the UK, though no name has been confirmed yet.

There is speculation that Project Moohan could outperform Apple’s Vision Pro by integrating Google’s Gemini AI to enhance user experience. Observations suggest that if Samsung’s headset features a user interface and display quality comparable to the Vision Pro while maintaining a lighter design, it could appeal more to consumers.

The design of Project Moohan allegedly shares similarities with the Apple Vision Pro, featuring an external battery pack, yet it is noted that the underlying software will differ significantly. There is also speculation that the headset may operate solely on hand tracking without traditional VR controllers, although this could be subject to change as development progresses.
