Discord launches Ignore feature for safer interactions

The Ignore function is designed to help users manage their interactions more discreetly, providing a way to avoid annoying or abusive users without drawing attention. Users can activate the feature by accessing a user’s profile, selecting the triple-dot menu, and clicking on Ignore. Upon activation, users will no longer see the ignored individual’s profile and messages, and they will receive fewer notifications related to that user across Discord.

Importantly, the Ignore feature differs from blocking, as it allows the ignored user to still view the profile and activity of the user who has ignored them. The ignored individual can also send messages, which the user can choose to unhide whenever they wish. Discord emphasizes this feature as a tool for users, particularly teenagers, to create a comfortable space without escalated conflicts.

Discord upload limit has been decreased to 10MB per file

Discord explained, “With Ignore, you can take space from specific people without them knowing, so you can stay focused on the fun.” This aims to offer a personalized approach for users needing a break from certain interactions.

In addition to the Ignore functionality, Discord has announced the establishment of a non-profit foundation named ROOST (Robust Open Online Safety Tools). This initiative aims to fill gaps in child safety and digital security by providing free, open-source safety tools to various organizations. ROOST is partnered with notable organizations, including OpenAI, Google, and Roblox, and seeks to utilize large language models for enhancing safety infrastructure.

Discord’s Ignore feature is available for users immediately, enhancing their safety toolkit to manage their online experiences discreetly.
