Word on the street (well, the tech street) is that Google’s been busy tinkering with a brand-new AI-powered feature for Gmail with Gemini.
While officially it’s still under wraps, leaks have given us a sneak peek at what’s in store. The star of the show? None other than Google’s powerful language model, Gemini.
Gemini takes flight in Gmail
Gemini isn’t some newbie on the AI scene. It’s a big-league language model from the minds at Google, trained on a massive amount of text data. Think of it as a super-smart language wizard capable of understanding and generating incredibly human-like text. Gemini can carry on conversations, translate languages, write different kinds of creative content, and answer your questions in super informative ways.
So, what does this mean for your inbox? It looks like Google is testing out a feature dubbed “reply suggestions from Gemini“, as AssembleDebug showcases with a post on X:

Much like the smart compose feature that helps you complete your sentences as you write, this new system aims to give you a helping hand when replying to emails.
How does it work?
Gemini reportedly analyzes the entire email thread to understand the context of your conversations. Then, using its language superpowers, it generates suggested responses that you can choose from.
Of course, even the smartest AI can have its off days. That’s why Google’s included a handy “Bad suggestions?” button. It lets you give feedback directly, helping Gemini improve its suggestions over time. Think of it as AI lessons for better email replies!
Here is what we know so far:
- It’s in the testing phase: This feature isn’t officially launched yet. It seems some folks were able to catch a glimpse by digging into the Gmail app’s code.
- Reply help is the focus: For now, Gemini seems geared towards assisting you in crafting replies, not writing entire emails from scratch.

Get excited but stay grounded
While a Gemini-powered Gmail upgrade sounds incredibly exciting, it’s important to manage our expectations. AI technology, even as advanced as Gemini, is still developing. It might not always produce perfect replies, but it has the potential to be an incredibly useful tool.
