Meta AI Assistant has been announced as one of the newest technologies at the company’s big event. This move introduces its own AI assistant and a lineup of AI personalities primed to make a splash on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger. Let’s delve into what this means for your digital interactions.
Zuckerberg’s Meta recently held an event and announced its new technologies and products to all the fans around the world. Meta AI Assistant is one of the new innovations that were announced at Meta Connect 2023, and today, we got together everything you need to know about it. Let’s take a closer look at it and see how it will enhance our experience on WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram!
What is Meta AI Assistant?
Picture this: an AI assistant ready to help you with anything from scheduling group activities to answering your pressing questions. If you’ve ever used OpenAI’s ChatGPT or similar chatbots like Anthropic’s Claude, you won’t feel like a stranger to the concept of Meta AI Assistant.
The goal here is to make your life easier by handling everything from event organizing to serving up search engine-like results. Notably, Meta has teamed with Microsoft’s Bing to provide real-time online results, giving it an advantage over free AIs that lack the most up-to-date information.

A picture’s worth a thousand words
But Meta AI Assistant is more than just text-based sparkle. It can easily produce pictures using the command “/imagine.” It created high-quality photographs in seconds during a quick demonstration, and the greatest thing is that this image production capability is completely free, says The Verge.
Although Meta’s VP of generative AI, Ahmad Al-Dahle, remained tight-lipped regarding the training data, he did note that it’s a “custom-made” big language model influenced by Meta’s Llama 2 model. Llama 2’s extensive deployment has sharpened the AI assistant’s abilities, leading to increased performance and user experience.
Meta AI Assistant is conversational and friendly
While other AIs might appear robotic and unapproachable, Meta AI is built to be conversational and friendly. It has a larger context window, which enables it to draw on prior encounters to have more meaningful discussions with people.
Al-Dahle’s team has also fine-tuned the assistant to provide clear and concise answers, ensuring that interactions are not only productive but also enjoyable.
Meta AI Characters: A star-studded cast
But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Alongside Meta’s AI assistant, the company is rolling out 28 AI characters across its messaging apps. Some are based on celebrities like Charli D’Amelio, Dwyane Wade, Kendall Jenner, MrBeast, Snoop Dogg, and Paris Hilton, while others cater to specific needs like travel planning. Given Meta’s expansive user base, this AI assistant could very well be the first brush with chatbot technology for many.
