Twitch vs. Kick.com: The battle we have been waiting for a long time

The conflict between Twitch and Kick.com is one of the most eagerly awaited and divisive in the streaming business. Twitch is, without a doubt, the industry leader in live streaming.

For streamers and watchers, Twitch provides a range of services and tools, including subscriptions, bits, emotes, extensions, and more. Additionally, Twitch has exclusive agreements with some of the most well-known streamers worldwide, like Ninja, Shroud, Pokimane, and others.

Kick.com is a brand-new streaming platform that debuted in 2023 with the audacious goal of revolutionizing the streaming business by providing a superior streaming and viewing experience.

Kick.com asserts that it outperforms Twitch in a number of areas, including streamers’ independence and control, improved video and audio quality, less latency, increased interactivity, and additional monetization opportunities.

In addition to the outrageous 95-5 revenue split that Kick is providing “normal” producers, which is significantly superior to Twitch’s 50/50 for most streamers and the best-case 70/30 split. No wonder why the new platform is on the lead in the Twitch vs. Kick.com battle.

xQc and Amouranth deals

Kick.com’s planned acquisition of xQc and Amouranth, who have sizable Twitch followings, shows their desire to upend the broadcasting industry. These high-profile appointments are unquestionably a serious setback for Twitch because of their enormous influence on the streaming industry.

A new era in streaming has begun with the launch of Kick.com. Kick.com, a new platform, has the chance to change the streaming experience by providing distinctive features, enhanced user interfaces, and a novel approach to revenue strategies.

Twitch’s fall

It is impossible to understate the effect of xQc and Amouranth’s departure. They have devoted fan bases on Twitch, and their transfer to Kick.com might entice those fans to check out the new site due to the platform’s promise of new material and cutting-edge features.

Although Twitch has long held a monopoly in the broadcasting industry, Kick.com’s arrival into the space presents a significant threat. Now that Twitch has lost two of its top stars, it must also deal with the possibility of losing more broadcasters and viewers to this competing site.

viewership across the board on twitch is plummeting and people are getting desperate. top streamers that would hit 75k+ consistently are now averaging slightly above 10k, you're seeing less and less successful vtuber debuts

Who is behind Kick.com?

Kick.com is a streaming service that Trainwreck has worked with as an advisor and non-exclusive streamer. Although it has a similar design to Twitch, the website has different functions.

Who actually owns Kick is the true mystery. Let’s learn the identity of the organization that extended a $100 million two-year deal to xQc.

Kick, according to Trainwreck, was backed by “the world’s leading advertisers” who would finance the website.

Additionally, he acknowledged that Ed Craven, the owner of the Bitcoin gaming portal Stake, is one of Kick’s investors. Nevertheless, he denied that Stake was Kick’s owner or a stakeholder.

One of the internet sleuths who refuted this claim was YouTube detective Coffeezilla, who asserted that Stake truly owned Kick.

The publishing of the iOS Kick app means they were forced to finally reveal the name of their legal entity – I'm shocked there's not been any reporting on who owns Kick since then. It's all been speculative up until now, and now it's something that can be easily verified… (1/5) pic.twitter.com/TJgAbY6C5z

The future of streaming services

The conflict between Twitch and Kick.com is about more than just vying for viewers and streamers—it’s also about determining the direction of streaming. Both platforms are attempting to influence the industry and the society surrounding it, but they have distinct goals and values for what streaming should be like.

Kick.com represents the revolutionary and disruptive style of streaming, while Twitch represents the conventional and well-established method. The resolution of this conflict will have a big influence on how streaming changes in the upcoming years, especially after the Twitch vs. Kick.com battle.
