Teradata has announced the acquisition of two companies to accelerate the growth of its big data capabilities.
On Tuesday, Teradata purchased assets of Revelytix, a company based in Maryland that is best known for developing Loom – a metadata management technology compatible with numerous Hadoop distributions such as Cloudera, Pivotal, IBM, MapR and Hortonworks.
The second purchase from Teradata was of four-year-old Hadapt – a company that provides an all-in-one analytics environment that integrates SQL with Hadoop. Teradara said in their press release that they would leverage the engineering team’s deep big data knowledge to enhance the Teradata Unified Data Architecture.
“The addition of the key assets of these companies underscores Teradata’s commitment to continued innovation and customer value, extends our big data portfolio, and enhances the Teradata Unified Data Architecture,” said Scott Gnau, president of Teradata Labs, in a statement.
Teradata said the people and intellectual property acquired in these transactions will become part of Teradata Labs, the award-winning research and development arm of Teradata. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
