In his speech regarding the opening of the CEBIT 2014 yesterday, David Cameron announced that the UK government is going to make 45 million pounds available to companies researching in the space of the internet of things. In addition, 1 million pounds will be made available to startups vying to get a foothold in the market.
He sees “the Internet of Things as a huge transformative development – a way of boosting productivity, of keeping us healthier, making transport more efficient, reducing energy needs, tackling climate change”, essentially “… a new industrial revolution [that he] wants us – the UK and Germany – to lead.” As this year’s partner country at the CEBIT, Great Britain hopes to collaborate with Germany on numerous fronts, including in university research.
