Kobo plans to add StoryGraph integration to its e-readers and reading apps in June. StoryGraph is an independent Goodreads alternative that gives readers greater control over their book recommendations.
Michael Tamblyn, CEO of Rakuten Kobo, expressed enthusiasm for the integration, stating, “For a lot of us, the best part of reading is the community. It’s a part of how we show up in the world as readers every day. That’s why I’m so excited about our integration with StoryGraph.” He noted that the aim is to eliminate the friction between finishing a chapter and tracking progress.
When the integration launches in June, Kobo users will have their progress automatically synced with their StoryGraph accounts. This will allow Kobo ereaders to update book progress percentages, add currently reading titles to StoryGraph’s In Progress shelf, and mark finished books as “Read.” The integration will support both ebooks and audiobooks accessed through Kobo’s platform.
This partnership aligns with Kobo’s strategy to provide a less restrictive reading experience compared to Amazon’s Kindle. In addition to StoryGraph, Kobo offers several other integrations, including with Instapaper for reading saved web articles and access to files from cloud storage services such as Dropbox and Google Drive.
