Google released Android Canary 2604 (ZP11.260320.007), the April build of its experimental operating system, now available for Pixel devices including the Pixel 8 series and above.
This release comes earlier in the month compared to the previous build, 2603, which was issued on March 19. Future image releases for devices including the Pixel 7a, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7, Pixel 6a, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet are planned.
The Canary channel serves developers by allowing early access to features still under development. Google recommends against installing these builds on primary devices due to potential instability and unexpected issues.
The new Android Canary 2604 includes several user-facing tweaks. A new “You’re all caught up” message replaces the former “No notifications” text when users clear all notifications.
Furthermore, app icon long-press menus are now more compact, with shortcuts initially hidden behind a “Shortcuts” toggle. The actions menu is collapsed by default and can be expanded using an “Actions” toggle after revealing shortcuts.
Google’s Mishaal Rahman stated, “The new Android Canary build brings the following user-facing tweaks.”
As part of the ongoing development, it is crucial for users to remain aware of the experimental nature of these builds. The features included in this Canary release reflect Google’s commitment to enhancing user experience while encouraging feedback from developers and testers.
