Spotify announced the global rollout of its new feature, SongDNA, available to Premium subscribers on iOS and Android. This feature allows users to explore various components of songs beyond just the primary artists, including covers, samples, and other projects involving collaborators.
SongDNA expands on Spotify’s existing “About the Song” feature by providing enhanced information about writers, producers, and other contributors. This deeper insight aims to highlight the connections and influences among artists, potentially leading to new collaborations within the music industry. The feature seeks to enhance visibility and credibility for individuals involved in music production.
According to TechCrunch, references to SongDNA surfaced in the app’s code last October, prompting speculation about its development. In November, Spotify confirmed its plans to launch the feature in early 2026. SongDNA utilizes data from WhoSampled, a community-driven music database acquired by Spotify last year.
SongDNA will compete with TIDAL’s interactive credits, which emphasize song contributors. Jacqueline Ankner, Spotify’s head of Songwriter & Publisher Partnerships, noted that the feature aims to facilitate music discovery while recognizing the contributions of songwriters, producers, and other collaborators.
The beta rollout for SongDNA is currently underway for Premium users globally, with full deployment expected to be completed by April.
