Netflix launched a mobile-friendly version of Red Dead Redemption on Tuesday, making the game officially available on iOS and Android devices for subscribers.

Players with a Netflix subscription can download the title, which features touch-screen controls for shooting and navigation. The game requires an internet connection for play and does not offer a multiplayer mode.

Rockstar Games originally released Red Dead Redemption in 2010. Set in 1911 during the Wild West era, players control John Marston, a former outlaw seeking his kidnapped family. The mobile version also includes the “Undead Nightmare” expansion pack, featuring Marston encountering a zombie outbreak.

The addition of Red Dead Redemption enhances Netflix’s gaming portfolio. The company previously faced challenges with fewer than 1% of subscribers engaging with its games. However, 2024 estimates indicate Netflix Games downloads increased 180% year-over-year.

Red Dead Redemption ranks as one of Rockstar’s most popular franchises, after the Grand Theft Auto series. The mobile game’s release might renew interest in the franchise.

This launch follows Netflix’s October introduction of games on smart TVs. Subscribers can utilize their phones as controllers for party games such as Boggle Party, LEGO Party!, and Pictionary.

The rollout also occurs two years after Netflix added Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy to its mobile game catalog. GTA: San Andreas will depart Netflix Games on December 12, its last day for subscribers.
