Samsung may introduce two book-style foldable smartphones next year, developing a device with model number SM-F971, codenamed H8, according to Smartprix.

This development is distinct from the Galaxy Z Fold8, which carries the model number SM-F976 and is codenamed Q8. The SM-F971 is part of the Galaxy Z Fold series, indicated by its model number starting with “9,” differentiating it from Flip-style foldables, which begin with “7.”

The model number structure suggests the SM-F971 could be a Galaxy Z Fold FE. For example, the Galaxy Z Flip FE has model number SM-F761. A potential Flip FE 2 would be SM-F771, with Samsung incrementing the middle digit annually. By substituting the “7” (for flip-style) with a “9” (for book-style), SM-F971 aligns with an FE variant for the Fold series.

Alternatively, some sources indicate the SM-F971 could represent a new form factor. This device would maintain a book-style foldable design but feature an 18:9 aspect ratio for its cover display and a square internal folding screen. This design is reportedly under development to compete with an upcoming foldable iPhone, also anticipated next year, which is expected to feature a wider cover display than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7.
