Google is updating Gmail notifications on Android to display attachment information directly. This enhancement, noted by 9to5Google, provides immediate visual cues regarding attached files within the notification panel.
Gmail mobile notifications previously showed sender names, subject lines, and initial body text. The update expands this displayed information. Users receiving an email with an attachment will now see a paperclip emoji preceding the subject line in compressed notifications. If the attachment is an image, a small preview of that image will replace the sender’s profile picture on the right side of the notification.
When the notification is expanded, a larger, rectangular preview of an attached image becomes visible. For non-image attachments, a “pill” graphic indicates the file type. This rectangular image preview replaces the initial text body within the expanded notification.
If an email contains multiple attached images, the notification’s bottom row will reflect this. The update’s deployment scope is currently not specified.
