Pixel 7 and Pixel 10 get a surprise October update

No patch notes accompanied the new build, leaving users unclear on what the update changes or fixes.

Google released an additional October 2025 software update for Pixel smartphones during the middle of the second week of the month. This update targets the Pixel 7 series, Pixel 10 series, and all intervening models, excluding the Pixel 6 series for the second consecutive time.

The release occurred a few days later than the typical schedule for Android updates, a delay that aligns with occasional variations in Google’s rollout patterns. More notably, this marks the second October build issued while the November 2025 update remains pending, diverging from standard monthly sequencing where a single primary update precedes the next month’s version.

Factory images and over-the-air (OTA) files for these new builds became available following the announcement, enabling users to access the update without delay. The previous October update addressed specific hardware-related issues, including screen flickering reported on the Pixel 7 series and a display problem on the Pixel 10 series that caused the screen to freeze or appear fuzzy during operation.

Google has not specified the contents or objectives of this latest October build. The company maintains a practice of detailing patch notes post-release in some cases, but no such information accompanied this deployment. Rollout to eligible Pixel devices occurs incrementally via OTA notifications, typically reaching most users within days of availability.

For those seeking immediate installation, manual methods involve sideloading the OTA file through the device’s recovery mode or flashing the complete factory image using tools like Android Flash Tool or ADB/Fastboot commands on a connected computer. These processes require unlocking the bootloader on some models and carry risks of data loss if not executed properly.
