WhatsApp has launched a new “Advanced Chat Privacy” feature that prevents others from exporting chat history and automatically downloading photos and videos sent in the app. The feature is designed to keep conversations within the app and is available in the latest version of WhatsApp.
When Advanced Chat Privacy is enabled, it blocks the export of chats with or without media to messaging apps, email, or notes. It also stops phones from automatically saving photos and videos from chats to local storage. However, it does not prevent users from taking screenshots or manually downloading media from chats, according to WhatsApp spokesperson Zade Alsawah.
The feature also disables the use of messages for Meta AI, a function that allows users to ask questions and generate images within chats. WhatsApp suggests using Advanced Chat Privacy when discussing sensitive topics in group chats where not everyone is familiar.
To enable Advanced Chat Privacy, users can tap on the chat name and select the setting. The feature is considered the “first version” by WhatsApp, with plans to add further protections in the future.
