Roblox announced plans to launch a new feature called Build, which will allow AI-generated game creation on mobile devices later this year. Build aims to enable users to create interactive experiences based on natural language prompts, marking the first time Roblox will support game creation on smartphones and tablets.
The toolset for Build is developed using a combination of open-source and proprietary AI models. The public alpha testing for Build will commence for users in New Zealand starting July 28, with additional regions to be added in subsequent months.
Users must be aged 9 or older to access Build tools. Creations that pass safety checks and are subsequently published will be available globally to users aged 16 and above. Roblox’s initial rollout of age verification systems encountered difficulties, yet the company initiated restricted account tiers last month.
The broader implications of Build, whether as a beneficial application of AI or potentially problematic, remain to be determined. An update on July 16 clarified that the public alpha would be limited to New Zealand at first.
