Google is enhancing transparency regarding the use of generative AI in advertisements with new tools in its My Ad Center panel. A section titled ‘How this ad was made’ will be incorporated globally across ads on Google’s Search, YouTube, and Discover platforms.
When Google’s AI tools are utilized to create or edit an ad, a disclosure will be automatically generated within the My Ad Center. For ads created using other tools, brands can choose to disclose the use of generative AI, though this appears to be an opt-in process rather than a mandatory requirement.
In certain regions, activating the toggle for AI use disclosure may result in a label indicating AI use displayed on the advertisement, based on local regulations. Google emphasizes the necessity of clarity in media manipulation to ensure that prospective buyers have an accurate understanding of the advertisements.
“We want to help people better understand the ads they see, while providing advertisers with straightforward tools to navigate evolving industry standards,” Google’s blog post stated.
