Google has introduced a new feature called Video Remix for subscribers of its AI services, allowing users to edit and transform videos stored in Google Photos using the Gemini Omni AI model. This feature aims to simplify video editing by eliminating the need for extensive tutorials on software like Adobe Premiere Pro.
Video Remix is accessible through the Create tab in Google Photos, which includes a library of templates for video reimagining. Users can prompt Gemini Omni to apply various changes, such as overlaying a watercolor filter, adding morning lighting to dark scenes, or inserting entirely different backgrounds. Google reported that processing a prompt to produce an edited video takes only a few seconds.

The Gemini Omni model, the technology behind Video Remix, was first announced in May 2023 and focuses on video as its initial area of development. It is positioned as the successor to both Nano Banana and Google’s Veo 3.1 video generator. Gemini Omni is engineered to accept a wider range of input and possesses an enhanced understanding of physical forces like gravity and kinetic energy, leading to more realistic scene creation.
Additionally, the feature allows users to insert themselves into videos using a digital avatar created through the tool, which is marked with Google’s SynthID watermark. Video Remix is rolling out to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers in the United States and select countries starting today.
