Meta said on Monday it is rolling out its Meta AI chatbot in Threads direct messages worldwide, allowing users to have private conversations with the assistant.
Threads users in select markets could already interact with Meta AI in public posts, but the new feature adds private chats inside the app’s messaging function, the company said.
Meta AI is already available in direct messages on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, according to Meta. The Threads integration allows users to share posts, images, links and videos directly with Meta AI, and ask follow-up questions in the same conversation, the company said.
Meta said it is still testing Meta AI in Threads public feeds in a handful of markets and is reviewing user feedback before expanding that availability more broadly.
Users who want fewer Meta AI responses in their feed can mute @meta.ai, choose the “Not interested” option on Meta AI posts, or hide Meta AI replies that appear on their own posts, Meta said.
