OpenAI has upgraded its GPT-5.5 Instant model to improve context understanding and adaptability to user queries. The company had previously implemented GPT-5.5 Instant as the default model for ChatGPT in May, reporting a 52.5 percent reduction in hallucinated responses and a 37.3 percent decrease in factual inaccuracies during tests.
The latest enhancements enable GPT-5.5 Instant to better identify the underlying goals of user questions. The model now retains context across multiple interactions more effectively, facilitating responses to complex questions and addressing multiple points of inquiry. OpenAI stated that the model is now more responsive to user clarifications, providing relevant answers rather than repeating previous responses.
In addition, GPT-5.5 Instant has improved its understanding of location context. This allows it to offer pertinent local recommendations, such as nearby restaurants when requested. The model can also present product recommendations, business information, and relevant images when deemed helpful.
OpenAI characterized the overall improvements as leading to more cohesive responses with a natural formatting style, reducing the templated feel often associated with chatbot interactions. These adjustments are expected to enhance user experience when engaging with ChatGPT.
