Huawei announced new supernode computing cluster systems at its Connect 2025 conference in Shanghai. The company aims to bolster its AI computing power and compete with platforms from firms including Nvidia and xAI.
The Shenzhen-based company introduced the Atlas 950 and Atlas 960 superpods and their corresponding supercluster versions. The Atlas 950 superpod, scheduled for a Q4 2026 launch, will be equipped with 8,192 Ascend neural processing unit (NPU) cards. By the end of 2027, Huawei plans to release the Atlas 960 superpod, which will feature up to 15,488 Ascend 960 NPU cards.
The larger supercluster configurations are designed for more extensive computing tasks. Expected by the end of 2026, the Atlas 950 supercluster will integrate over 500,000 Ascend NPUs. The subsequent Atlas 960 supercluster will contain more than 1 million Ascend NPUs. According to Huawei, these systems are intended to address existing chip manufacturing limitations and enhance domestic AI development capabilities.
