To use DeepSeek R1 in the model catalog, users must sign up for an Azure account if they do not already have one. After locating DeepSeek R1 in the catalog, they can open the model card, click on deploy, and receive the inference API and key, along with access to the playground. Deployment is swift, taking less than a minute to generate the necessary API and key. Users can also explore additional resources and guides on GitHub.

Future developments include the release of distilled versions of the DeepSeek R1 model for local use on Copilot+ PCs, as announced in the Windows Developer blog post.

During a recent earnings call, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella discussed the AI arena, noting that advancements in AI, like those from DeepSeek, exemplify ongoing innovation in the sector. He acknowledged the rapid evolution of AI technology, comparing its trajectory to past shifts in computing paradigms. Despite the emergence of competitors, Nadella expressed confidence in the positive implications for broader market consumption and application development, particularly as costs for inference computing decline.
