Saffron Technology’s Saffron 10 Mimics Brain Function to Anticipate Future Events

Saffron Technology have just announced Saffron 10, the latest version of their Natural Intelligence Platform. Saffron Technology cliams to be the first cognitive computing solution on the market that draws on how the brain learns and anticipates event. The system looks for associations in the data that might have remained uncovered by the human eye, and anticipates event, allowing you to make informed and optimised decisions.

Saffron connects huge amounts of data on a granular level, uncovering crucial connections and patterns that may otherwise go unrecognised. Saffron Technology’s CEO Gayle Sheppard told Dataconomy, “What we’re truly trying to see is when do we have patterns that are significant, that are unique, that are different? If we see things that appear together all of the time, and suddenly they appear apart, we want to know about that. It’s the ability to recongnise these patterns, and inform the customer and end-user that these changes are occuring, that these patterns are emerging, or that there’s an anomaly within the pattern.”

Two key new algorithms introduced in Saffron 10 are the Saffron Universal Cognitive Distance algorithm, which allows for the rpocessing of massive datasets without having to data model first, and the Saffron Mutual Information, aimed at tackling sparse data challenges.

Sheppard highlights that the anticipatory nature of their technology is drawn from neurological processes- “we do this every day while we’re driving. We anticipate if we can make it through a traffic signal or not, based on our closeness to the traffic light when it starts to turn yellow.” These kind of thought processes are the basis of Saffron’s “Thought Processes”- machine learning algorithms to help automate complex sequential processes. “They allow us to help automate processing a massive amount of data, that we automatically capture,” Sheppard notes. “Why, where, when, how, what were the outcomes? What can we anticipate will happen next, and what can we do about it?”

Saffron’s platform is currently being in real-time operational risk intelligence and decision support in smart device manufacturing, financial services, energy and national security industries. In manufacturing, end users can cut costs by using Saffron to anticipate maintenance issues before problems arise; and more quickly identify quality control issues that slow down manufacturing cycle times. The benefits of being able to anticipate problems, and make better-informed decisions on next steps are obvious within any application.
