Nintendo has released new system software updates for its family of Switch consoles, including the original Switch models (Lite and OLED) and the newer Switch 2. The most prominent new feature across both platforms is the addition of small icons on the home menu that allow users to differentiate between their physical and digital games. A colored symbol indicates a physical cartridge, while a blue symbol indicates a digital software download.

As shared by Nintendo, the update for the original Nintendo Switch also introduces new options for system transfers to a Nintendo Switch 2, allowing users to disable the redownloading of software and the transfer of album data. Additionally, users can now adjust the volume from the Quick Settings menu while in VR mode.

The Nintendo Switch 2 received a more extensive list of updates. Users can now cancel all in-progress software downloads at once. Console bundles that include a software download will now display a “Receive Software” icon that links directly to the Nintendo eShop. Friend search has also been expanded to include people a user has interacted with in their friends’ GameChat rooms.

Other Switch 2-specific improvements include updates to GameChat, which now prevents the console from sleeping during a chat and adds an option to turn off audio panning. A new setting for the wireless Switch 2 Pro Controller allows users to change the audio mode, selecting between “Stable” or “Low Latency.” Accessibility features were also enhanced, with the text-to-speech speed limit increased from 300% to 400%. Finally, Thai and Polish were added as system language options, and several setting names, such as “Stop Charging Around 90 percent” (now “80-90 percent”) and “Platinum Point Notification,” were updated. Both console updates also include general system stability improvements.
