Samsung has launched the Perplexity TV App, the first AI-powered application for its smart televisions. The app integrates generative AI to create a more interactive user interface, functioning as a conversational “answer engine” directly on connected screens.

The Perplexity TV App is available immediately on 2025 Samsung TV models. A planned operating system update later in the year will extend compatibility to models manufactured in 2023 and 2024. The application is designed to gather and synthesize information from credible online sources in real-time. It then presents users with visually rich answers to their queries and provides curated follow-up suggestions to facilitate deeper, more thorough exploration of various topics directly from the television.

This new app extends the capabilities of Samsung’s Vision AI Companion platform, which was first introduced at the IFA 2025 technology trade show. The integration allows users to pose complex questions to their television and receive immediate answers and related content recommendations. Access to the Perplexity TV App is available through the main Apps tab or by using the designated AI button on the Vision AI Companion interface. For input, users have the option of employing voice commands, an on-screen digital keyboard, or a connected USB keyboard.

Dan Glassman, Senior Director and Head of New Business Development for Samsung Electronics, explained that “the first-of-its-kind Perplexity AI-powered app… broadens our Vision AI Platform offering for a more unique and personalized user experience.” He emphasized the company’s strategy of delivering new technologies to its customer base. Glassman added, “Samsung continually brings innovative and first-to-market experiences to our device owners, and this partnership with Perplexity is the latest that will deliver cutting-edge AI technology, redefining how Samsung owners interact with their TVs.”

Representing Perplexity, VP of Business Ryan Foutty articulated the company’s objective. “Curiosity can strike at any time. Perplexity’s mission is to serve the world’s curiosity by bridging the gap between traditional search and innovative AI-driven interfaces,” Foutty stated. He highlighted the significance of deploying the technology on Samsung’s platform, identifying the company as the number one television brand globally. As part of the launch, a promotional offer provides users a complimentary 12-month subscription to Perplexity Pro, which can be claimed by scanning a QR code displayed within the app.
