Apple began the distribution of iOS 26 beta 2 to iPhones participating in the developer beta program, introducing several modifications across the operating system’s interface and functionalities.

One notable adjustment in iOS 26 beta 2 involves the Control Center. The visual appearance of the Control Center’s background blur has been refined to enhance legibility. This refinement includes the implementation of a darker color for the clear background and a significant increase in the blur effect applied to elements behind the Control Center interface. These changes are intended to improve the clarity and readability of text and icons displayed within the Control Center, particularly when overlaid on various background content.

The “Alt 1” ringtone has been formally incorporated into the accessible ringtone options within the iOS Settings application. Specifically, this ringtone is now cataloged under the “Reflections” category. Prior to this beta release, the “Alt 1” ringtone was identifiable within the underlying code of the operating system but remained inaccessible to users through the standard Settings interface. The current presentation of this ringtone within the beta still exhibits characteristics that suggest ongoing development, indicating its integration is not yet fully finalized.

Notification badging for messages originating from unknown senders has undergone a color alteration. Previously, notifications from unknown senders were distinguished by a red notification badge. In iOS 26 beta 2, this has been changed to a blue notification badge. This modification aims to provide a clearer visual distinction between alerts from known contacts and those from unverified sources through the color of their respective notification badges.

These iPhone models won’t upgrade to iOS 26

The ChatGPT integration within iOS 26 beta 2 now provides a more granular classification of user requests. The system is engineered to differentiate between two primary categories of requests: “Image Limit” and “Other Requests.” This distinction allows for a more precise management and categorization of user interactions with the ChatGPT service based on the specific nature of the queries submitted.

Apple Music has received two new widget implementations in this beta release. A “Live Radio” widget has been introduced, designed to facilitate direct access to live radio streams from the device’s home screen or other widget-compatible areas. This widget is specifically noted as being beneficial for use with CarPlay. Additionally, an Apple Music widget has been developed for the Lock Screen, providing users with the capability to initiate searches directly from the Lock Screen interface without needing to unlock the device or navigate to the full Apple Music application.

The collection of stock iPhone wallpapers has been reinstated in iOS 26 beta 2. This collection comprises wallpaper options specifically curated for each individual iPhone model. In the preceding beta 1, users could only retain existing wallpapers if they had been previously saved; however, any wallpapers from this collection that had been deleted could not be restored. This restoration functionality has now been re-enabled. Furthermore, the default iOS 26 wallpaper now incorporates a parallax effect, a visual feature that was not present in the initial beta 1 release.

The alignment of application icons within the Dock has been modified under specific conditions. When the Dock contains fewer than four application icons, these icons are now left-aligned. In previous iterations, these icons were centrally aligned regardless of the number of applications present. The current status of this alignment change, whether it represents an intentional design decision or an unintended anomaly, has not been officially clarified.

Within the Safari web browser, the controls accessible via the “More Menu” (represented by an ellipsis icon) have undergone a structural reorganization. This reorganization encompasses alterations to the sort order of the controls as well as changes to the icons associated with each control. It is important to note that while the visual presentation and arrangement have been modified, the underlying functionality of these controls remains consistent with their previous iteration.
