Apple is internally testing the iOS 18.3.1 update for iPhones, with a release expected within the next few weeks. This minor update aims to address software bugs and security vulnerabilities.

Apple tests iOS 18.3.1 update to fix some bugs

The iOS 18.3.1 update follows the iOS 18.3 release at the end of January, which included 29 security fixes, one of which addressed a vulnerability in CoreMedia (tracked as CVE-2025-24085). This flaw allowed a malicious application to elevate privileges, raising concerns about its potential exploitation.

Currently, Apple Intelligence notification summaries for news and entertainment apps are temporarily disabled in iOS 18.3 due to issues with inaccurate summaries. It remains unclear whether these features will be restored in iOS 18.3.1 or future updates.

Additionally, Apple is set to seed the first beta of iOS 18.4 this month, which is anticipated to introduce enhancements for Siri, new emoji, and features enabling European Union users to set default mapping and translation applications. The iOS 18.4 update is projected for release in April after beta testing.

The iOS 18.3.1 update could resolve minor bugs reported in the iOS 18.3 environment, although user experiences, such as those with the iPhone 16, indicate a stable performance so far. As the gap between iOS 18.3 and the expected iOS 18.4 widens, the iOS 18.3.1 update is an important interim measure to address issues and enhance overall system security.

Users can check for the iOS 18.3.1 update by going to Settings > General > Software Update, with further updates available through relevant news channels.
