Apple has released the iOS 26.1 developer beta, which introduces new settings for interface customization and lock-screen functionality. Launched on Monday, the update provides users with toggles to adjust the “Liquid Glass” design and to disable the lock-screen camera swipe gesture, addressing prior usability concerns.
The beta includes an option to modify the opacity of Liquid Glass, a design feature Apple first announced at its Worldwide Developers Conference this year. Initial implementations of the design led to some legibility issues, which prompted Apple to introduce this user-controlled setting. The new toggle allows individuals to choose between a more transparent or a more frosted appearance for the operating system’s graphical elements.

This customization can be found in the Settings application by navigating to Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass. Within this menu, users can select between two options: “Clear” and “Tinted.” The source material noted that comparison images illustrate the visual differences. MacRumors reports that the same tinting feature is also available in the developer betas for iPadOS 26.1 and macOS 26.1, providing a consistent option across devices.
Beyond the visual adjustments, the iOS 26.1 beta adds another functional toggle. This setting allows users to completely disable the ability to access the camera by swiping from the lock screen. The intended purpose is to prevent unauthorized individuals from taking photos with a locked device. This control is located in the Settings menu under Camera > Lock Screen Swipe to Open Camera.
