Canva announced a massive language expansion for its Canva AI assistant, introducing support for 16 new languages. This update allows users to utilize the platform’s suite of artificial intelligence tools in their native languages.
The conversational AI assistant, which was first introduced in April 2025, previously operated exclusively in English. Following the update, it now supports Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese. This enhancement enables users to input prompts and receive generated output directly in any of the supported languages, removing the previous English-only limitation for interacting with the AI functionalities.
In addition to new languages, the company confirmed the AI is now proficient in 31 distinct locales. This capability allows the system to understand and apply local conventions and cultural nuances to generate more contextually accurate results. Canva did not provide a specific list of the 31 supported locales. The company illustrated this feature by stating, “Someone in Tokyo asking for a professional presentation will see Canva AI consider Japanese design sensibilities, or someone in Mumbai requesting a festive poster will see Canva AI draw from culturally-relevant visual elements.” The assistant can also now process and generate output from verbal requests made in the supported languages.
Canva underscored the feature’s adoption by noting that its suite of AI tools has been used more than 20 billion times since launching, positioning it as one of the platform’s fastest-growing offerings. The company also provided updates on its overall business performance, reporting that it has surpassed $3.3 billion (approximately Rs. 29,300 crore) in annualised revenue. Simultaneously, the platform has reached a milestone of 240 million global users.
The capabilities of Canva AI encompass a range of creative and technical tasks. The tools can generate designs, images, and draft documents based on user prompts. For more technical applications, the assistant can write front-end focused code. It also has the ability to create video clips, a function that is powered by Google’s Veo 3 AI model. The suite includes several advanced editing features, such as the ability to remove or expand image backgrounds, erase specific elements from a design, reposition items, and perform localized edits on visual content.
The Canva AI suite is designated as a premium offering on the visual communications platform. Its features are not available on the free tier and are included with all of the company’s paid subscription plans.
