Nintendo has launched a new mobile game, Fire Emblem Shadows, a spin-off from the popular strategy series. The game, available starting today, September 25, 2025, introduces a new gameplay style that combines role-playing with social deduction mechanics, similar to games like Among Us.

Fire Emblem Shadows gameplay revolves around treachery

Fire Emblem Shadows blends real-time strategy with an element of treachery. In each battle, a team of three allies participates, but one is secretly a “disciple of shadow” working against the others.

Players will take on one of two roles:

  • Disciple of light: The majority of players, whose goal is to navigate through a labyrinth.
  • Disciple of shadow: A single, secret traitor whose objective is to deceive the others.

After the initial battle, players vote to determine who they believe the treacherous disciple of shadow is. The outcome of this vote directly impacts the difficulty of the next battle.

The success of the disciples of light in identifying the traitor, or the ability of the disciple of shadow to remain hidden, is central to how the game unfolds.

Fire Emblem Shadows availability and pricing

Fire Emblem Shadows is a free-to-start title with optional in-app purchases. It is available for both iOS and Android devices in more than 70 countries, including the United States and Japan.

The game was developed in partnership with Intelligent Systems and DeNA, the same teams behind Nintendo’s other successful mobile title, Fire Emblem Heroes.
