TwinMind raises $5.7M to launch AI second brain for offline note-taking

The offline-first app continuously records and transcribes conversations, integrating AI-powered insights without compromising privacy.

TwinMind, founded in March 2024 by former Google X scientists Daniel George, Sunny Tang, and Mahi Karim, has secured $5.7 million in seed funding to develop an AI-powered application designed to act as a virtual “second brain.” The app captures ambient speech to construct a personal knowledge graph, enabling AI-generated notes, to-do lists, and answers to user queries.

The application operates offline, processing audio in real-time on-device, and can continuously record for 16–17 hours without significantly affecting battery life. Users can optionally back up transcribed data to the cloud and benefit from real-time translation in over 100 languages. TwinMind’s low-level Swift service allows the app to run in the background throughout the day, overcoming iOS restrictions that affect most other AI note-taking apps.

Chrome extension for contextual insights

TwinMind extends its functionality with a Chrome extension that captures contextual information from browser activity, including email, Slack, and Notion. The extension has been used for practical applications, such as shortlisting candidates from hundreds of LinkedIn profiles. Unlike standard AI chatbots or AI-powered browsers, TwinMind builds knowledge from offline conversations and in-person meetings.

User base and privacy

The company currently serves over 30,000 users, with 15,000 active each month. Its user base spans the U.S., India, Brazil, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Europe. Professionals make up 50–60% of users, students about 25%, and personal users 20–25%. TwinMind emphasizes privacy: audio is deleted immediately after transcription, and only the text is stored locally.

TwinMind recently introduced the Ear-3 model, supporting over 140 languages with a 5.26% word error rate and 3.8% speaker diarization error. Ear-3 operates in the cloud but automatically switches to the offline Ear-2 model if connectivity is lost. The Ear-3 API will soon be available to developers and enterprises at $0.23 per hour.

Subscription plans and future plans

The company offers a Pro subscription at $15 per month, which provides a 2-million-token context window and 24-hour email support. The free version continues to offer unlimited transcription and on-device speech recognition.

TwinMind, valued at $60 million post-money, plans to expand its team, enhance user experience, and grow API adoption.
