Trend Micro launches digital twin to simulate cyberattacks in real time

Built on Nvidia’s accelerated computing stack, the model creates live, continuously updated simulations of IT and OT environments to help organizations defend against rapidly evolving threats.

Trend Micro Inc., a Japanese cybersecurity software firm, has launched a new cyber resilience model leveraging digital twin technology and agentic artificial intelligence. This offering enables organizations to construct real-time models of their information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) environments.

The model facilitates threat simulation, defense validation, and policy adjustment before actual attacks occur. Built on Nvidia Corp.’s accelerated computing stack and AI Enterprise software, the digital twin technology employs agentic AI to generate continuously updated simulations of enterprise systems. These virtual environments act as testbeds, allowing security teams to model attacker behavior, experiment with new tools, and make informed decisions without disrupting operations.

Designed to support various scenarios, the cyber resilience model accommodates adversary simulations, business continuity testing, and investment decision modeling. For instance, organizations can assess the performance of new security tools within a virtual clone of their infrastructure. They can also simulate critical failure events to understand potential disruptions across connected systems.

Trend Micro asserts that this move from periodic assessments to continuous, intelligent simulation signifies a major advancement in proactive cybersecurity. By enabling organizations to anticipate adversaries, fortify their environments, and secure operations, the technology aims to shift security practices from a static, reactive approach to a dynamic, predictive one.

Beyond threat simulation, the model also supports informed security investments and operational planning. Decision-makers can evaluate new tools, policies, or architecture changes within the simulated environment to understand their impact before implementation on live systems. Rachel Jin, chief enterprise platform officer at Trend Micro, stated, “Enterprises are struggling to defend complex, dynamic infrastructure environments from highly adaptive, AI-powered adversaries. Rapid shifts in threat actor tactics and IT infrastructure mean reactive, point-in-time risk assessments are no longer fit for purpose.”

According to Jin, “Our digital twin technology empowers customers to simulate threats and safely validate security controls without touching production systems, to finally close the gap between digital transformation and defensive readiness.”
