Pixel 9a: We are not sure we liked this new design

Although difficult to gauge due to the image quality, it appears that the phone will feature a more symmetrical bezel layout compared to the Pixel 8a, which had a thicker bottom 'chin' bezel

The upcoming Google Pixel 9a is rumored to retain some design features from its predecessor, the Pixel 8a, particularly regarding its screen bezels. A recently leaked image suggests that the Pixel 9a may maintain a similar screen-to-body ratio as the Pixel 8a, which stands at 81.6%. In contrast, flagship devices typically feature ratios exceeding 90%, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max at 91.4% and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra at 92.5%.

A blurry picture of the Pixel 9a’s front design is leaked

The leak, attributed to reliable leaker Evan Blass and reported by 9to5Google, shows a blurry picture of the Pixel 9a’s front design. Although difficult to gauge due to the image quality, it appears that the phone will feature a more symmetrical bezel layout compared to the Pixel 8a, which had a thicker bottom ‘chin’ bezel. The reported sizes indicate a bottom bezel of around 24 pixels and a top bezel of approximately 27 pixels.

In terms of dimensions, the Pixel 9a is expected to be slightly larger than its predecessor, measuring 6.3 inches compared to the Pixel 8a’s 6.1 inches. The front-facing camera on the Pixel 9a may also be larger, with visible antenna lines on the device’s sides. The screen background showcases a new “Swirling petals” wallpaper, and the Pixel Launcher is expected to remain consistent with previous versions, indicating that significant changes to the user interface may be reserved for the forthcoming Pixel 10.

On the rear, the Pixel 9a is set to depart from the traditional camera bar design introduced with the Pixel 6, instead adopting a small oval housing for its cameras on the left side. Internally, the Pixel 9a is anticipated to feature the same Tensor G4 chipset as the Pixel 9, along with 8GB of RAM. The battery is expected to see an increase in capacity to 5,100mAh, and a new 48MP primary camera is also on the horizon.

The anticipated starting price for the Pixel 9a is expected to remain at $499. Alongside the device, Google may offer several promotional bonuses, including three months of YouTube Premium and Google One subscriptions, as well as six months of Fitbit Premium.

While the details from the leak should be approached with caution until confirmed by Google, reports suggest that pre-orders for the Pixel 9a may begin on March 19, breaking the typical May launch window associated with previous “A” series devices.
