Meta AI has rolled out its AI-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses in France, Italy, Ireland, and Spain, allowing users to ask questions and receive real-time responses in multiple languages. The launch aims to enhance users’ daily lives by providing assistance directly from their eyewear.
Meta AI introduces smart glasses for European users
Beginning November 18, users in four European countries will benefit from Meta’s AI capabilities through Ray-Ban Meta glasses. This launch enables voice-activated inquiries, offering instant responses in English, French, Italian, and Spanish. For example, users may ask, “Hey Meta, what’s the best patisserie in Paris?” or “What are some good gift ideas for my kids aged 6 and 8?”
As part of this rollout, features that allow queries about visible landmarks remain limited to the U.S., Canada, and Australia. Meta has emphasized that the glasses provide a hands-free way to access information and creativity while on the move. Since the glasses released in September 2023, Meta has prioritized compliance with the EU’s regulatory system.
“With Meta AI on Ray-Ban Meta glasses, people have a hands-free way to ask questions on-the-go and receive real-time answers and information,” a spokesperson from Meta stated. The company intends to expand the availability of these glasses to additional countries within the European Union, aiming for broader compliance and enhanced user experience.
As this product launch unfolds, Meta faces additional challenges, including regulatory scrutiny. Recently, the European Commission fined Meta 797.72 million euros (approximately $842 million) for violating EU antitrust rules. Specifically, the Commission found that Meta unfairly favored its Facebook Marketplace service, allowing automatic access to users regardless of their preference. Meta has announced plans to appeal this decision while diligently addressing regulatory concerns to regain trust within the EU market.

Meta is also promoting the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses through innovative retail experiences, such as a pop-up store in Los Angeles. Here, potential customers can interact with the product first-hand, allowing them to explore its features and capabilities without any pressure to purchase. “When you let somebody try out a pair of Ray-Ban Meta glasses, you become the best salesperson ever,” said Creative Director Matt Jacobson. Highlighting the immersive experience of using Meta AI, he confirmed the company’s commitment to creating engaging avenues for potential buyers.
