Amidst the ever-changing landscape of technology, a new leader steps into the spotlight: Mustafa Suleyman, with his pioneering spirit and ethical approach to AI, symbolizes a fresh chapter in Microsoft’s quest for innovation and inclusive technological advancement.
I’m excited to announce that today I’m joining @Microsoft as CEO of Microsoft AI. I’ll be leading all consumer AI products and research, including Copilot, Bing and Edge. My friend and longtime collaborator Karén Simonyan will be Chief Scientist, and several of our amazing…

So, what’s next for Microsoft AI? How will Suleyman shape its direction, and can he succeed? Let’s take a closer look and find out.
Mustafa Suleyman will try to make Microsoft AI more friendly
Microsoft appointed Mustafa Suleyman to lead its consumer-facing AI products, including Copilot, Bing, and Edge. But who is Mustafa Suleyman? He’s a co-founder of Google DeepMind and is known for his vision and dedication to ethical AI. However, getting the role of Microsoft AI CEO is not easy; you should impress Bill Gates, too! And Suleyman’s post-DeepMind project Inflection AI and its Pi chatbot seem to hit the right spot. Just months ago, Bill Gates expressed his admiration for the chatbot, and now he wants to see the same success for Microsoft’s AI tools.
“Whoever wins the personal agent, that’s the big thing because you will never go to a search site again, you will never go to a productivity site, you’ll never go to Amazon again. I’m impressed with a couple of startups, including Inflection.”
-Bill Gates
This chatbot is all about making conversations meaningful and easy for everyone. So, what’s special about the Pi chatbot, and why does Bill Gates like it? Well, Pi AI is like having a friendly companion to talk to. In simple terms, it’s a versatile tool for talking, learning, and getting inspired, like how Bill Gates wants to turn Copilot and other Microsoft AI products.
It’s not an easy job. So, alongside him, Microsoft is also bringing on board talent from Suleyman’s previous venture, Inflection AI. Additionally, Suleyman will be supported by Satya Nadella and a team of professionals within Microsoft’s AI division, including engineers, developers, researchers, and other experts in the field.
Satya Nadella expressed his admiration and confidence in Mustafa Suleyman’s abilities in a memo to Microsoft employees. He highlighted Suleyman’s role as a founder of both DeepMind and Inflection AI, praising him as a visionary, product maker, and builder of pioneering teams. Nadella emphasized the opportunity for Microsoft to achieve bold missions under Suleyman’s leadership, particularly in building technology previously thought impossible. Nadella also underscored Microsoft’s commitment to ensuring the benefits of AI reach every person and organization on the planet, safely and responsibly, aligning with Suleyman’s vision and expertise.
“I’ve known Mustafa for several years and have greatly admired him as a founder of both DeepMind and Inflection, and as a visionary, product maker, and builder of pioneering teams that go after bold missions. We have a real shot to build technology that was once thought impossible and that lives up to our mission to ensure the benefits of AI reach every person and organization on the planet, safely and responsibly.”

This collaborative effort ensures that Suleyman has the necessary support and resources to lead Microsoft’s AI initiatives effectively.
